Farming

Although the area of Sussex where Rowfold Farm is situated was regarded mainly as an area for livestock, particularly cattle, Rowfold Fram has more than 140 acres of IACS registered land and has been farmed as an arable enterprise for decades. The main cash crops are cereals (mainly wheat) with break crops of pulses or linseed.

The Company is farming in a traditional way and with respect for the sustainability of the land. Regular analysis of the soils and correction of the balances takes place and a highly experienced consultant agronomist is engaged to advise on all aspects of the farming activities.

As with all farms, the present economic climate for Rowfold is not advantageous and the prospects are very uncertain. The current review of the European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy will undoubtedly bring change, but few are courageous enough to predict what that change will mean for British farming. In the absence of guidance, Veitch Moir has chosen to operate Rowfold Farm in a substantially traditional way, but with emphasis on conservation, historic cultural values and on long term sustainability.

Veitch Moir is seeking to act as a responsible corporate citizen in managing Rowfold Farm in a manner which will be appropriate for future generations.
